Hummingbird Gallery

Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds are awe-inspiring little creatures.  They beat their wings more than 50 times per second.  They can hover as well as fly up, down, sideways, forwards, backwards and even upside down. While they appear fragile, they are actually quite hardy.  They can fly 500 miles non-stop across the Gulf of Mexico each spring and fall, and they fearlessly protect their feeding territory from other hummers.  A hummingbird’s brilliant colors come from the iridescent quality of its feathers, not from pigmentation.  The colors we see depend on our viewing angle and the intensity and direction of the light.  You will notice this in my photos.  I even have a photo of a male which appears to be brown.

I hope you enjoy these photos.  The first five are available for purchase.  If you would like to buy a framed print of one of these photos, you can click on the Store button.  (If you want to purchase a photo which is not currently in the store, just let me know.)
